DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT!

See What People Are Saying About
Their Author Study Experience!

"Students literally scream, squeal, and race towards books when they see one of the books or authors from One Word. This program has given our reading such a spark of excitement."

Lauralee Derksen

4th-6th Grade Teacher

"Wow! I just finished watching the live stream with Alan G and I LOVED IT! I was in an auditorium with all of our 6th grade students and you guys NAILED it! You were funny, engaging, and gave our young writers (and me!) so many great ideas. Young people seeing their literary heroes and hearing writing tips directly from the authors is so important.”

Kara Dumont

6th Grade Social Studies Teacher

"Our school can't afford to have an author come in, so this is the next best thing — at a price we can actually afford."

"Ethan never chooses to read at home and when he is asked to read, within 3 minutes he is asking me how much longer he has to read. Ethan actually looked up [Kwame’s] books at the local library (I almost fell over in shock) and read all of the Crossover book yesterday.  Today he is onto J vs. K as we drive to his soccer tournament. Ethan has ADHD and dyslexia so he has had to work real hard to get to this point. I'm running to the library now to get Kwame's other books! I don't know who coordinates the author talks but please thank them. They have been really powerful for someone who never chooses to read for pleasure."

"I just wanted to thank Kwame for his most recent Author Study and share an outcome that made my month! A sixth grader in my creative writing class began a story yesterday that wowed me. It begins: “56. 56 labs. 56 labs all up in flames. 56 labs all up in flames caused by one person. Me. And tonight, let’s make it 57.” I was floored and asked him about his ideas…and he said “Remember last month when we had that guy talk to us on video? The history guy? Well the other guy before him did repetition like this, and I wanted to try it out.”

A month (and winter break) later, this kid is applying what he remembered from Kwame’s Author Study writing/read-aloud. That right there makes the entire workshop worth it.

Thank you for all you do to reach our kids and help us help them grow!"

"The sessions are so engaging both in-person and with the included lessons. The lessons are so easy to add to our ELA curriculum as introductions and/or review and practice of good writing skills and strategies. Keep up the amazing work."

"Even some of my most disengaged, reluctant readers have enjoyed the author sessions.”

"“The BEST PART of our homeschool day? Revision RoundUp with Kwame Alexander!!! My sons were literally jumping-- no wait-- (need a stronger verb ) BLASTING UP outta their seats to take the poll and answer questions. THANKS FOR MAKING LEARNING SO MUCH FUNNNNNNN!!!! ”

"My students literally created a countdown chart on the whiteboard in between One Word sessions! During every session, students are huddled around the Apple TV and interacting with Kwame like he's in the room with us. Every time we have an author study, students rush to the front of the room to check out the newly featured author's book. This has been the missing piece of the puzzle, giving students who were reluctant readers and writers the motivational push to dive in.
